The peculiar presbyornithids were used to argue for a close relationship between flamingos, waterfowl, and waders. Relationships to the waterfowl were considered as well, especially as flamingos are parasitized by feather lice of the genus Anaticola, which are otherwise exclusively found on ducks and geese. Earlier genetic studies, such as those of Charles Sibley and colleagues, also supported this relationship. Usually, the ibises and spoonbills of the Threskiornithidae were considered their closest relatives within this order. Traditionally, the long-legged Ciconiiformes, probably a paraphyletic assemblage, have been considered the flamingos' closest relatives and the family was included in the order. The family Phoenicopteridae was introduced by the French zoologist Charles Lucien Bonaparte in 1831, with Phoenicopterus as the type genus. ' crimson/red-feathered') other genera names include Phoeniconaias, which means "crimson/red water nymph (or naiad)", and Phoenicoparrus, which means "crimson/red bird (though, an unknown bird of omen)". The name of the genus, Phoenicopterus, is from the Greek φοινικόπτερος phoinikopteros, lit. The word may also have been influenced by the Spanish ethnonym flamenco ("Fleming" or "Flemish"). We have been going to Benidorm maybe a dozen or more times now, mainly because, short flight and many shops / bars staying open in Dec, compared to other places, but we are thinking we have “done” Benidorm now! We do look for somewhere to go to else each time we book a December holiday, so we won’t say never again, because, no doubt, we’ll be back! Thanks Flamingo Oasis for yet another fine holiday. The name flamingo comes from Portuguese or Spanish flamengo ("flame-colored"), which in turn comes from Provençal flamenc – a combination of flama ("flame") and a Germanic-like suffix -ing. In fact no complaints about the hotel at all, another good holiday. Being all/inc maybe you should not need to go outside to pay for drinks, but it made a change to get out of the hotel for a bit, so, not complaining. Well worth it to sit in the hot sun, which is why you are there. ( not for the folks in the upgraded club, who have their own roof terrace ) we did and up popping out side to the bar opposite called the Corner Bar, to have the odd beer for 1.50 Euros per pint. This was evident on a sunny day, where seating in the sun was tricky to get. Shame! We did find most of the indoor areas in the hotel to be a bit chilly ( not the downstairs entertainment area ) so wearing a longed sleeve bit of clothing was a good idea. Doing the toe/finger test the water was more than warm, very inviting. Do look! We walked past and saw steam coming off. There is an indoor pool, which after reading many complaints about the pool being cold, we did not bother to even look. Simples! One or two staff could have smiled a bit more, but some of the guests are a bit on the rude and on side grumpy to them, so if they are not ecstatic to serve them I’m not surprised. We were polite to them, in return they were polite to us. We never had any problems with bar staff. There was amazing friendly male waiter who showed you to your table, very happy smiley. Nothing wrong with the food, you just get a bit fed up with it. We found the food very good for the first few days, but then All inclusive fever hit us and we found the food a bit samey.

W did not know they were coming! On to the holiday itself. To our surprise our friends from last year’s Benidorm holiday were hiding at the bar to surprise us when we checked in! That was amazing! We had the best time with them and it made our holiday.
CHRISTMAS FLAMINGO HOW TO
The animation team were on hand, with welcome drinks and instructions on how to use free Wifi ( which worked anywhere in hotel ) they showed you the machine where you got the Wifi voucher and to shorten the queue they printed out the Wifi vouchers for waiting guests. The people on the last coach did have a long wait. We were lucky as 3 or 4 coaches turned up together and we were near the front of the queue. Flight not bumpy, friendly staff on plane. Flights outwards and return with Tui were bang on time, no delays.
